Temporary Access for Construction Site Safety

It is important to always adhere to healthy and safety guidelines when working on or visiting a construction site, particularly in treacherous conditions.

People should be able to be able to move safely around site at all times and any potential risks should be reported immediately to avoid any accidents.

If there are any uneven surfaces then temporary walkways are the solution. These should be easy to identify by being well lit and with clear signposting. The temporary walkways must be in good condition underfoot and sensible footwear with good grip should always be worn.

Keep the site organised and tidy so that there are no obstacles that could prove to be hazardous. Make sure that deliveries are only made when more supplies are needed so that there is only the necessary amount of materials on site which will avoid clutter. In addition to this, avoid carrying large objects that may obstruct your view and instead use mechanical lifting equipment.

When possible, use cordless tools as cables are not always easy to see and are easily tripped over. When cables are unavoidable, make sure that they are run at high levels.

We are at the mercy of the elements which can cause unsafe conditions. When there has been rainfall treat mud surfaces with stone and icy surfaces with grit. An alternative is to use a temporary covering. Signposting and safety footwear are also essential.

Finally, any changes in surface levels should be dealt with by installing access ramps. When this is not possible then there should be clear signposting to warn workers and visitors.

So for a safer work environment follow this health and safety advice.
