M6 Motorway 2008 bridge and junction demolition
Our client was a contractor who had to demolish and remove two bridges and a junction, over an existing rail line, within 48 hours.
Due to our extensive knowledge of this type of works, we were able to survey the site and offer a solution. This was approved by the contractors engineers as the only viable solution to the problem. The main emphasis was safety and the works could be carried out whilst protecting the carriage way, and adjoining rail property in the timescale allowed.
We designed a base consisting of our 150mm hardwood mats to protect the rail line, then a secondary base of 250mm mats that would take the impact of falling debris. The works were completed safely and ahead of schedule, with no damage to the carriageway or rail property.
We have carried out many jobs similar to this one over the years, and can state that they were all completed with minimum disruption, provided a stable base for heavy demolition plant, whilst also protecting the area around the works.
